Fallout 76 adds customizable private servers for Fallout 1st subscribers

When Bethesda released "Fallout 76" in 2018, players began asking for private servers almost immediately. And when they got that (premium) private server in 2019, players had another request: to make the server customizable. This one is taking longer.

Then in 2021, Bethesda announced a new feature set called "Fallout Worlds": starting in September, players with private servers will be able to customize their experience and choose their own server rules.

"Combine unlimited combat APs with unlimited ammo to become a mighty wasteland warrior, set creature spawns for some serious big game hunting, control weather effects like fog, nuclear radiation, or even Quantum Storm, turn on absurd jump heights (fall damage to remember to turn off), enable ragdoll physics, or change the height limit of settlements ...... All of this can be played and tested at will," Bethesda's announcement states.

"Utilizing an extensive list of customizable settings, players can build C.A.M.P.s in previously restricted areas or even create a builder's paradise by eliminating the need for electricity.

Private servers are available only to active Fallout 1st members, who may invite up to seven other friends to play on their server (and at least one Fallout 1st subscriber must always be private active on the server, otherwise it will be shut down for everyone). As a reminder, Fallout 1st costs $12.99 per month or $100 for a one-year subscription.

A sample of some server options can be seen below, but there are quite a few tweaks, such as crafting and building without resources, no AP cost for combat, and turning off most camp building restrictions, such as the need to power items with a generator, etc. It appears that adjustments can be made. It also allows camps to increase their budget, height, and radius, so expect interesting bases to start being built on private servers.

In addition to these customizable private servers, there will be a feature called Public Worlds. This is a separate game mode from Adventure, with customized server rules (created by Bethesda) that players can try out without having to sign up for their own private server. progress in Public Worlds will not carry over to Adventure mode. Public Worlds progress is not carried over to Adventure mode.

"Public Worlds is a rotating series of Fallout Worlds experiences available to all players. Handcrafted by the Bethesda Game Studios team with input from the Fallout 76 community, each Public World uses a different combination of Fallout Worlds settings to provide a unique play experience.

The wait for the custom servers has been long, but it's almost here; Fallout Worlds came to Fallout 76 in September and will be available on the public test server starting today.
