As you may have already noticed, Steam is down: according to the Unofficial Steam Status site, most services including the store and community are currently unavailable.

The good news is that Steam is not alone. The outage is due to an issue with Akamai's Edge DNS Services, which is now experiencing "new problems" and affecting other services as well; GamesRadar reports that the PlayStation Network is also down, for example, and Epic is also having problems reported that the PlayStation Network is also down, and Epic is also having problems.

No word from Valve on the issue at this time, but it is out of Valve's hands: The Verge reports that other services are also experiencing disruptions, including banks, brokerages, and possibly 911 services. Akamai says it is working on the issue and will update the status periodically.

We are monitoring the situation and will let you know as soon as it is restored.
