Overwatch" may have canceled a planned map release this week due to alleged abuse.

Earlier this week, the state of California filed a lawsuit against Activision Blizzard for fostering a "frat boy" culture of discrimination, harassment, and gender pay disparity. The publisher denies the allegations, but recognizes that now may not be the best time to build excitement for the new "Overwatch" map.

According to a now archived article by Dexerto (via Eurogamer), Blizzard was supposed to unveil a new deathmatch map, Malevento, in a surprise PTR update yesterday. Considered one of the most vibrant maps in the game, the small Italian town is home to Talon's secret base and was scheduled to appear in-game on August 17.

No official word on why the announcement was withdrawn, as the story was never released and Blizzard is currently silent on all social media accounts. However, it is very likely that the team decided that few people were ready to be excited about Blizzard's new content after it was revealed that the studio's culture of sexual abuse and harassment was so vile that it reportedly drove one female employee to suicide.

Claims of mismanagement were supported by subsequent reports that blamed the infamous launch failure of "Warcraft 3: Reforged" on poor communication, cost cutting, and corporate pressure to ship the game early.
