Worst Black Friday: RTX 3090 $300 above list price

This PNY RTX 3090 graphics card, which looks as if it was made from a set of K'nex, will definitely ray trace the hell out of Cyberpunk 2077. Good news: Dell has this card in stock and is selling it for $1915.99, $315 above list price!

That's right, Dell is selling the graphics card at a "doorbuster" price of $300 above the MSRP of $1,600. (Update: It ended, but Dell says it will resume on November 28.) That's because you can't get the RTX 3090 for the list price. eBay sellers are listing it for about $2,000, so in a way, this markup is a bargain.

To be clear, this is not a deal we would recommend. Sure, the RTX 3090 is a powerful GPU, but for $2,391.19, you can get an Alienware desktop PC with an RTX 3080. For only $475.20 more, you get an entire computer and a great graphics card, the RTX 3080.

I understand your desire to play new blockbusters like Cyberpunk 2077 at the highest possible graphics settings, but if you're disappointed, let me assure you that you can't go wrong by sticking with what you have or, if possible, buying an RTX 3070 or 3080.

Here's why:

To satisfy my curiosity, I checked out Dell's financing campaign to see if they could make the RTX 3090 deal even worse than it is now. Yes, you can. Sometimes websites offer interest-free payment plans for big purchases, but not with Dell. So, if you figure in the minimum monthly payment, you'll pay off the ray trace reflection of "Cyberpunk 2077" over about 20 years, eventually spending over $8,000 on a shiny new machine. What a bargain!

For deals on pre-built PCs with RTX 30-series cards, check out our Black Friday Gaming PC Deals hub, which is a bit barren due to the same glut that makes the $1,915.15 RTX 3090 a "steal." If you're looking to build a budget PC that can run games at 1080p, you might find a slightly better discount.
