This $400 Ryzen HP laptop is a great budget option for students and parents.

Black Friday gaming laptops are already one of the few deals to be had. In addition to the added cost, gaming laptops are generally heavier and have shorter battery life. If you're looking for a solid work laptop (and a little Minecraft while you're at it), a certain HP model with a Ryzen CPU is a bargain at $400.

The model on sale (15z-eh000) is powered by a Ryzen 7 4700U processor, an 8-core/8-thread CPU that outperforms Intel's 10th-generation laptop chips in some tests. 8GB of RAM, 256GB NVMe SSD, 15.6 inch 1366 x 768 screen is combined. That's great hardware for the current retail price of $359.99, except that 768p doesn't look amazing when stretched out to 15 inches. Thankfully, for just $40 more, you can configure your laptop into a 1080p IPS display for a total of $399.99.

There are other customization options that might be worth adding, depending on your budget. The next most valuable upgrade after the screen is the choice of 16GB RAM, which costs an additional $80. Even though you won't be playing high-end games on this laptop, the extra memory won't slow you down if you open more browser tabs or applications at once. 16GB RAM and a 1080p display upgrade combined will bring the laptop computer comes to $479.99. At least as of this writing, there is also an option to add backlighting to the keyboard for $0.

Whatever configuration you choose (as long as you upgrade the screen), you get a great laptop that can easily handle web browsing, productivity work, and very light gaming.
