Flight Sim's next update takes off from the UK

Shortly after a major update in the United States, the wonderful Microsoft Flight Simulator announced that its next major update will focus on the United Kingdom. This update brings new terrain and map data to England, Wales, and Scotland. It's called the United Kingdom Update, but that's not a very good name because there is no data for Northern Ireland. The island of Great Britain is right there. They announced this update in a recent Q&A Twitch stream.

The update adds 50 to 60 new points to the Great Britain Island map. This includes new airports like Manchester Burton, Liverpool EEGP, and perhaps most importantly Land's End in Cornwall. New procedural methods will also introduce cathedrals, churches, and hopefully eight other types of buildings. In addition, new aeronautical data from Bing will upgrade the maps for all three countries in a more holistic way.

In a Twitch stream, flight sim developer Jorg Neumann said that data for Northern Ireland is not yet available, but "we might as well do the whole of Ireland." So expect a unique, future update focused on that island.
