Sabrent's massive 2TB NVMe M.2 SSD now on sale for under $190

Cyber Monday 2020 will be remembered as the day that ultra-fast SSDs became cheap enough for high-capacity storage. The Sabrent Rocket Q 2TB, an NVMe M.2 drive with 3.2GB/s read and 2.9GB/s write, is available from Amazon on Cyber Monday for $187.49. That's a $122.50 discount.

The Sabrent Rocket Q is an M.2 2280 format drive with a quad-lane PCI Express 3.0 interface. In other words, it is not the latest PCIe 4.0. However, at this price point, you can get several gigabytes of bandwidth in both directions. Still, it is very fast storage. Furthermore, if the motherboard does not support PCIe 4.0, it is a moot point anyway.

For more information, this is a QLC drive, which can ring alarm bells given that QLC NAND memory is cheaper than TLC memory, but much slower. However, at this large capacity, Sabrent dynamically allocates literally hundreds of gigabytes to operate in fast SLC cache mode. Therefore, one would have to do something quite extraordinary to expose the fundamental performance of the QLC chip.

Moreover, random access performance is rated at 670K IOPS for writes and 255K IOPS for reads, which is strong all-around performance regardless of workload. Anyway, with 2TB of storage, the biggest draw is that you can expect fast solid-state performance for all storage, including OS and games.

Admittedly, even 2TB is not enough for a really large game library. But it certainly allows you to store all your favorite titles that you use regularly and access them fast, while relegating the games you only play occasionally to a big, dumb, slow magnetic drive. All in all, this drive offers a complete storage solution at a very low price.
