Latest "Call of Duty: Cold War" Patch Makes Guns Level Up Faster

"Call of Duty: Black Ops - Cold War" players are having a hard time acquiring weapon camouflage. Just two weeks after launch, Treyarch is permanently increasing weapon XP gains in both multiplayer and zombies. Today's patch also addresses a bug in Zombies that caused players to earn less weapon XP than intended when playing solo.

Since day one, weapon XP has been a bottleneck for Cold War players; search the Cold War subreddit and you'll find people upset that weapons level up too slowly. Dsaxon posted, "Please, more XP for weapons." Anecdotal evidence suggests that it is indeed taking longer to unlock basic attachments than the leisurely pace we enjoyed in Modern Warfare. The progression of other parts of Cold War, such as player levels, feels reasonable by comparison.

A good example of this is this post by Reddit user evchev. He has over 1000 kills with his Pellington 703, but some of the rifle's scopes, stocks, and grips are still locked out. At his old XP rate, he still needed a few hundred kills to unlock the thermal scope. Amazing.

Hopefully today's patch will alleviate some of that hassle; Treyarch did not say how much more weapon XP players will earn; Treyarch is also making up for the bug that crippled solo zombie players in the double XP event over Thanksgiving weekend To make up for a bug that disadvantaged solo zombie players, Treyarch is planning another 2x XP event during December.

With the Nuketown 24/7 playlist still rotating this week, it's a good time to try out the weapon XP increase. Just don't think about abusing the out-of-area glitch that plagued the map in the first week.
