With Christmas just one day away, another free game has arrived from the Epic Store. Today's offering is Tropico 5. It's a "dictator sim" where you lead a small tropical island nation from the early colonial era to the 21st century by any means necessary.

As Phil discovered when he reviewed the game in 2014, if you want to be El Presidente, sometimes you have to get your hands dirty. Elections? Of course! Fair elections" Well, let's not go overboard here. Even if the people don't understand what's good for them, sometimes you have to put their interests ahead of your own.

Tropico 5 is not the most daring video game ever, it is essentially a "more sophisticated version of Tropico 3" and it is not even the latest: that would be "Tropico 6," released in 2019. However, it is the most free game currently available, and in my opinion, a triumph.

As of now, there are only about 21 hours left to get Tropico 5 for free: on December 24 at 11:00 a.m. ET, a new giveaway game will appear. It's a mystery game, but if you believe the leaked list from last weekend (and so far, it's bang on), it's the eerie indie platformer extraordinaire "Inside".
