High-speed gaming laptop with high refresh rate and RTX 2070 Max-Q GPU on sale

The latest standalone CPUs and GPUs may be in short supply (relative to demand), but gaming laptops are plentiful. That also means there are bargains to be had. One such is this Gigabyte Aorus 15P laptop with a 15.6" display and 144 Hz refresh rate.

Adorama's price is $1,249.99, which is quite a bargain on its own. Scroll down the product page, however, and you'll see a link to a $100 mail-in rebate offer. It must be filled out and postmarked by December 31, 2020.

In addition to the high-speed display, the Aorus 15P combines an Intel Core i7 10750H Comet Lake processor (6C/12T, 2.6GHz-5GHz, 12MB L3 cache) and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Max-Q GPU. This is a powerful combination, and for less demanding titles (esports games in particular), utilizing a 144 Hz refresh rate is a realistic possibility.

Other features include 16GB of DDR4-2666 memory, a 512GB SSD (NVMe, PCIe 3.0), and RGB backlighting on the keyboard. Connectivity options include three USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A ports, USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port, GbE LAN, SD card reader, 3.5mm audio, mini DisplayPort 1.4, and HDMI 2.0.

If you don't want to mess with mail-in rebates, Acer's similarly configured Predator Triton 300 is available on Newegg for $1,199.99.

The Predator Triton 300 has the same CPU and GPU, but with an even faster display at 240 Hz. Taking full advantage of the display's refresh rate in higher-load games is a demanding hardware requirement, but titles like "Fortnite" and "Counter-Strike Source" can achieve three times faster refresh rates: Global Offensive titles, triple-digit frame rates are feasible.

This model also features 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports (Type-A and Type-C), mini DisplayPort 1.4, and HDMI 2.0.
