PC Gamer Hardware Awards: What's the Best Graphics Card of 2020?

The latest hardware is always best for performance-related components, such as graphics cards. Faster, more powerful, and therefore better. Inevitably, our list of best graphics cards is dominated by the new generation of GPUs that AMD and Nvidia have unleashed on the world in 2020.

With both Red and Green releasing high-end graphics cards in droves over the last three months or so, the 2020 GPU game will carry a lot of weight at the end of the year. In other words, things are changing dramatically and surprisingly rapidly. At least, it would have been if a fresh supply of these impressive new graphics cards had been consistently available to retailers.

Now, whenever we talk about next-generation graphics cards, that's the wrinkled gray mammal in the room: there are many reasons why AMD RX 6000 series cards and Nvidia RTX 30 series GPUs seem to be perpetually out of stock, but essentially, the new cards represent a major generational leap in gaming performance, there are currently Covid-related strains in the manufacturing and component supply chain, and it boils down to the fact that virtually everyone is looking for new technology while bored at home and a bit depressed.

And bots. All. Them. Bots. [But it won't last forever. So while you may not be able to buy a new GPU right now, it's worth reiterating that we've seen unprecedented leaps in performance from both sides of the graphics card spectrum as we enter the New Year. And these are some of the best we've seen this year. [But the AMD RX 6900 XT and Nvidia RTX 3090 cards don't make sense for 90% of gamers. But the AMD RX 6900 XT and Nvidia RTX 3090 cards don't make sense for 90% of gamers.

However, the RX 6800 XT and RTX 3080 are the best graphics cards around, and one of these should be a welcome addition to your gaming rig. That is, if you can find one you can actually afford; the RTX 3060 Ti has been quietly turning heads inside, offering gaming performance that would have looked range-topping just summer.

"Who Will Win?" The list of winning products for the PC Gamer Hardware Awards 2020 will be released on December 31, and we are ready to wrap up the year.
