Epic invested a portion of its "Fortnite" funds in an actual megamall.

Epic Games has announced that it has acquired a massive shopping mall to be the company's new campus, Cary Towne Center, which is 980,000 square feet and 87 acres in size, which is the equivalent of 50 soccer fields if you can imagine that scale. Epic has the flexibility to build a customized campus from the ground up to accommodate long-term growth." [Epic has been based in Cary, NC for over 20 years and has extensive ties to educational institutions in the area, and this decision positions the company for its long-term future in the region. We are very proud of Epic's decision to locate its new global headquarters in Cary," said Cary Mayor Harold Weinbrecht.

"And we are honored to partner with the Epic team on this exciting new development.

The shopping mall will be acquired from real estate firms Turnbridge Equities and Denali Properties and taken over in 2019. Jason Davis, MD of Turnbridge, said, "Epic shares our vision to transform Cary Town Center into a vibrant community space."

"After years of rocky development plans for the center, we are excited to see this space being utilized to its full potential and transformed into something the Town of Cary and the community can be proud of.

Details of Epic's redevelopment plans for the site have not been disclosed, but the purchase price is listed at $95 million; it's not that Epic is short on funds; it's just that the success of "Fortnite," which attracted more than 350 million players, can be directly linked to this site. Obviously, it's easy, but the Unreal Engine will always be the company's golden goose. Interestingly, "Fortnite" featured a megamall in Season 9, but in that case it was "redeveloped" by a volcano.
