Noctua passive cooler postponed again

Noctua's fanless CPU cooler, announced in July, has already been delayed once, along with other Noctua products.

A recent tweet from FanlessTech, which seems to be working with Noctua to drum up enthusiasm for the upcoming product, includes an updated release roadmap for Noctua. According to this, the next passive CPU cooler, which is said to support a maximum CPU load of 120W (without other case fans), is not expected to be released until Q2.

An updated roadmap can be found on the company's website.

Last July, Noctua said "prepare to be amazed" at the performance of this cooler; Noctua said that with the addition of a silent fan in the case to provide active airflow, this new passive CPU cooler can handle up to 180W.

In other words, it should be able to handle top-class CPUs: Intel 10th generation Comet Lake processors like the Core i9 10700K have a TDP of only 125W, while AMD's Ryzen 5000 series CPUs like the Ryzen 9 5950X have a TDP of 105W by TDP 105W by default. Also, AMD's Ryzen 5000 series CPUs like the Ryzen 9 5950X have a default TDP of 105W.

I can't say I'm really surprised about this setback either. Times are tough for the technology community, and manufacturers seem to be under a lot of stress, to say the least.

Late last year, we witnessed vicious reseller bots (including Nvidia's RTX 3080 and RTX 3090) ransacking top-class tech products. Retailers are now reportedly preparing for GPU and motherboard manufacturers to announce price increases.

Still, given all the hoopla, we're willing to wait a few more months for this baby. We are a little disappointed at the delay, but it can't be helped since COVID-19 is still raging behind the scenes.
