Steam client beta adds expanded support for PS5 and Xbox controllers

Valve's public test branch, the Steam beta client, has been updated to extend support for Xbox controllers. The biggest change is the addition of support for Xbox Elite controllers, which we recently declared to be the best PC controllers available and now allow you to bind rear paddles in the controller configuration.

Xbox Series X controllers also have extended support, with the Share button now bindable, and Valve has also added the ability to use four or more Xbox controllers simultaneously on Steam. The beta client also now supports trigger rumble in games that use the Windows.Gaming.Input API.

It's not just Xbox controllers that get some love; the PlayStation 5's DualSense controller also received a small update that allows for LED customization. The controller's LEDs can now be enabled, completely disabled, or only enabled when multiple DualSense controllers are connected to Steam. This may seem trivial, but it shows that Valve is not done tinkering with this particular piece of hardware yet.

Valve initially had a minor hiccup in delivering the update. If you are having problems getting it to work, update the driver through the controller's settings and reboot your PC.
