Let's stop drooling for a second and get into the details of the new Acer Predator XB273U NX gaming monitor, featuring a 2,560 x 1,440, 275Hz IPS panel, built with Acer's "Agile-Splendor" IPS technology and featuring a 0.5ms response time, we expect this product to go through the roof. [This new Predator screen has a very attractive spec list for those still unwilling to sacrifice a strong frame rate for 4K fidelity.
This 275 Hz refresh rate is definitely overkill for even today's best graphics cards; even the RTX 3090 struggles to achieve this performance grade at 1440p in all but the most demanding competitive titles. However, thanks to Nvidia G-Sync, the inability to achieve refresh rates should not be a major problem, and we are still quite enthusiastic about achieving higher refresh rates, usually relegated to 1080p panels, with a bit more area.
And it's IPS. We were half expecting VA at this grade, but IPS will do just fine; Acer's Agile-Splendor IPS aims to reduce native response time, and the XB273U NX's 0.5ms response time is probably with overdrive enabled.
Expected to be included in several new products at CES and also in Predator is Nvidia's Reflex Latency Analyzer. You can read about the benefits of this technology in Alan's extensive deep dive, which includes the software side of things and what it brings to the table, but basically this monitor helps measure the latency of a system, which can reduce latency.
As with any new and exciting panel, we are looking at a slightly more expensive pricing: the Acer Predator XB273U NX will cost $1,100 (£999, €1,179) and will be available starting in May.
Acer also just announced an all-new 4K, 31.5-inch Nvidia G-Sync-enabled monitor, the Predator XB323QK NV. This one will also be available in May and is priced at $1,200.
Ahead of CES 2021, two very high-end PC monitors will be available from Acer. However, next week's tech show is a broad church, and there will no doubt be many gaming monitors announced, from the expensive to the price-sensitive.
