Play Pokémon on your computer, on Twitter, in someone else's avatar.

We thought Twitch Plays Pokémon was a serious take on everyone's favorite game, collecting adorable seizure-inducing monsters and pitting them against each other for sport, but now programmer Constantin Liétard has found a way to play Pokémon Red inside his Twitter avatar.

Players reply to his pinned tweets with one of the game's inputs (Up, Down, Left, Right, A, B, Start, Select), and every 15 seconds the most tweeted input is entered into an emulated version of the turn-based 1996 Game Boy JRPG. The next frame is then displayed in a glorious 400x400 pixel Twitter avatar; Liétard will take over the nightly manual save operation to ensure that progress is not lost.

As it grows in popularity, it will be reopened several times to add new features and now has a Discord server where players can better collaborate and continue discussions about whether Squirtle is a good starter.

So far, they have made it outside and things are going well. You can follow their progress and join the ongoing game in this thread.
