Calls to nerf Warzone's DMR are pouring into the real world

No one can escape DMR 14 in the Call of Duty Warzone. Even after last week's patch nerfed the headshot potential, this high-damage laser beam continues to dominate every match. Weeks after the frustratingly one-sided meta began, some fans have begun to protest more creatively.

Scroll an inch down the Warzone subreddit and you won't see a new post calling for the DMR to be re-nerfed, or a gameplay clip of someone decimating an entire squad with a single magazine. redditor UGAShadow's ironically titled this clip sums up the current power level of this weapon:

Warzone had its share of overpowered weapons in its first year (sniper rifles were the culprit just a few months ago), but the DMR 14 has become notorious enough to be lamented on Reddit It's become; DMR 14 is popping up in less expected corners of the Internet and even on literal street corners. Las Vegas-based YouTuber EazyIan took to the streets to protest the DMR and received words of solidarity from fellow players who drove by. A driver shouted, "Yeah, fuck the DMR."

Big names outside the game are beginning to speak their minds as well. Last week, rapper Lil Uzi Vert broke his five-day Twitter silence to let his 7.9 million followers know his feelings on Warzone's meta:

The damned DMR has also infiltrated politics. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's recent press conference witnessed "nerf the dmr" in a live streaming chat. Even Scottish Prime Minister Nicola Sturgeon has felt the heat.

TikTok, a social media platform, is also getting in on the anti-DMR rhetoric. The most popular video (over 150,000 likes) is by user surishbrjddhddhgv, in which a child who has been killed repeatedly by the DMR reacts violently. (Warning: consider turning down the volume before playing the video.)

Since the video was posted on Christmas, the raging Warzone child has become the de facto game anthem on TikTok. to show how powerful the DMR is, videos borrowing the same rant have been Dozens of videos borrowing the same rant have been added to show how powerful the DMR is.

So why is the DMR 14 getting so much attention when it is nothing more than the latest Warzone balancing nightmare? The gun has been popular since it was first added to the game in the "Black Ops - Cold War Season 1" update in mid-December. With the subsequent holiday break and last week's ineffective patch, the DMR has been dominant for almost a month. This is a much longer period of time than the relatively short time SP-R 208 has been in the sun.

A re-nerf of DMR 14 feels inevitable at this point, but it is impossible to say exactly when that will be. Raven Software, which appears to be in charge of determining the future balance of Warzone, has been largely silent on the issue since last week's patch; Raven's official account tweeted the day after the patch asking players to keep sending in "constructive thoughts."

Weapon balancing is just one of the issues Warzone is working on each week. On the bug/exploit front, the dreaded infinite stims glitch is back for what feels like the billionth time. Idiots who know how to pull this glitch should watch out, because it's easy to win a game if you stand outside the zone.
