Ladies and gentlemen, we must inform you that the high-society MMORPG Ever, Jane will regrettably end its service this year. [3 Turn Productions kickstarted the digital game in 2013 with $100,000 to re-create Regency-era England, and this scrapped sword and sorcery for a cutthroat world of gossip, social interaction, and rising social status in Jane Austen's works It was a strange twist on the genre. After various closed and public betas, the developers hoped for a full release in late 2020.
Unfortunately, funding for "Ever, Jane" appears to have run out, and in August, 3 Turn explained that the game's release had to be delayed due to a challenging year. Attempts to collect subscriptions to cover monthly server costs were unsuccessful, and in December the team announced that Ever, Jane would be closing its property by the end of the year.
"Ever, Jane" was not a pretty game, and 3 Turn was probably not doing enough themselves. However, I have great respect for the developer's attempt to create a socially driven MMO. One player told The Guardian about his scandalous alter egos, from a traveling pastor to a gay barrister who moonlights as an opera singer.
"My characters have experienced sweet and tender poetic courtship, hot seduction, humiliation, and subtle triumph. They have loved secretly, forged calculating connections in the name of friendship, and made foolish mistakes."
3 Turn's final post ends with the hope that a rich benefactor might come on board to buy the game. But until that happens, "Ever, Jane" will remain lost to history, just like the era that "Ever, Jane" loved so much.
