General
At only $79 for this 1TB model, there is no reason to hold out for a small capacity SSD.

It's been a minute or two since we covered SSD deals, but rest assured that prices have not skyrocketed. Big discounts are a bit rare, but bargains are still to be had. In fact, the cheapest 1TB SSD on Newegg right now is a well-known brand model, the T-Force Vulcan G from Team Group

. Admittedly, a $17 savings is quite modest as a discount, but if you're already starting at under $100, this deal is more attractive than it would otherwise be.

The T-Force Vulcan G is a 2.5" SATA type, as opposed to an M.2 form factor drive with an NVMe (basically PCIe) interface.

However, until developers start paying serious attention to the added speed advantages of NVMe/PCIe models, gaming behavior with SATA SSDs will remain much the same. [In this case, Team Group's drive combines a 64-layer 3D triple-level cell (TLC) NAND memory chip (enhanced with SLC caching) with Silicon Motion's SM2258XT controller to deliver up to 560MB/sec sequential read performance and 520MB/ sequential read performance of up to 560 MB/sec and sequential write performance of up to 520 MB/sec.

Overall, it is an excellent choice and the least expensive of the 1TB SSDs. If you still prefer the M.2 NVMe model, the Team Group MP33 1TB (1,800MB/sec read, 1,500MB/sec write) is $95.99, and Intel's 665p 1TB SSD (2,000MB/sec read and write) is $99.99 at Newegg ($10 less).
