If you're planning a GPU upgrade, power it with a high-quality 700W PSU for only $70!

Nvidia has added an ampere GPU called the GeForce RTX 3060. The card will be available next month for $329. However, if you plan to upgrade and need a new power supply unit, you can now buy EVGA's 700W model on Amazon for $69.99.

This is $20 less than list price and very reasonable for a 700W model from a reliable manufacturer. I learned that lesson when one of the connectors on a no-name PSU I bought a few years ago started smoking.

Although this model does not offer modular cables (duh!) ), it boasts 80 Plus Gold certification. This basically means it runs more efficiently and wastes less power due to heat.

As for the aforementioned GeForce RTX 3060, this PSU should have no problems: 600W for the Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti and 650W for the Nvidia RTX 3070 (same for AMD's Radeon RX 6800).

Beyond that, you need a more powerful PSU, such as Corsair's RM850x; you might be able to run Nvidia's RTX 3080 with EVGA's 700W unit, but Nvidia recommends at least a 750W PSU (and AMD's Radeon RX 6800 XT as well), and it is generally better to follow their guidelines.

For mid-range builds, however, this EVGA 700W is an attractive cost-effective option.
