MSI is now producing 7,000 MB/s SSDs for gamers

MSI will begin manufacturing SSDs. It's a high-speed SSD, a PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive that reaches read speeds of 7,000 MB/sec and write speeds of 6,900 MB/sec. At this time, the drive is known only as the MSI SSD, but that will no doubt change as it gets closer to launch. However, we do know that it will be available in capacities up to 4TB.

The announcement came at this year's CES, where MSI also unveiled a bevy of laptops and graphics cards, including the ultra-thin, RTX 3060-powered MSI Stealth 15M.

What really stands out, however, is the introduction of SSDs, which seems slightly out of MSI's league; the fact that MSI is catering to gamers' needs first and foremost may bring some fresh perspective.

Other than the fact that it uses TLC flash memory and comes with a heatsink, there aren't many details about the drive; MSI showed off two designs, both with the MSI Dragon badge and lots of metal fins to help cool the drive

There appears to be no RGB lighting, but you never know. [We'll have to wait until we peel the sticker off the actual review unit to find out who MSI chose for the flash memory and controller, but these numbers are similar to those found on the excellent Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus (review coming soon), which offers similar throughput

These numbers are reminiscent of the Phison E18 controller in the excellent Sabrent Rocket 4 Plus (review coming soon), which offers similar throughput.

These numbers are on par with the Kingston Ghost Tree SSD, also announced at CES; one thing is for sure, there are going to be more options for ultra-fast SSDs.
