Cyberpunk 2077" transformed into a sequel to "Borderlands" with celluloid shading.

Stat-driven RPG shooter? Check. Thieves with guns holed up in a cardboard shack? Check. Come to think of it, Cyberpunk 2077 isn't that different from Borderlands, and with a new mod that portrays Night City in the distinctive comic style of a nagging looter, it's hard to tell the difference between the two.

Go ahead. Please tell me this next video wasn't shot in a rusty junkyard on Pandora.

Created by modder Salmonella123, Borderlandfy2077 is a fairly simple Reshade plugin that adds a thick black outline to most objects in the game. Add in a saturation boost and other visual tweaks, and even the dimly lit basements of Night City look as if they were popped out of the panels of a 2000AD comic book.

Now, incorporating toon shaders into a game to make it look a little cel-like is nothing new. But what makes this mod work so well is that it forces you to admit that "Cyberpunk 2077" is basically "Borderlands" itself. There are plenty of rusty shanty towns in "Night City" that look like they were lifted straight from "Pandora," and conversely, "Borderlands 3" broke out of the series' wasteland and into the neon-lit urban sprawl with the occasional bloody scene.

Cyberpunk 2077 modders have been busy over the past month adding simple hairstyles, janky third-person perspectives, or disastrous weather patterns. You can check out some of our favorites in our list of the best mods for Cyberpunk 2077.
