One of Asus' new 4K 144Hz gaming monitors may be affordable

At CES 2021, it is Asus' turn to unveil a new line of high-resolution, high-refresh, high-bandwidth gaming monitors. Highlights include 32", 28", and 43" 4K 144Hz panels with HDMI 2.1 connectivity, and a 27" QHD 240Hz panel.

If you yearn for 4K 144Hz, Asus has something for you. The most affordable would be the new Asus TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A, due out by June.

It has a 28-inch IPS panel, which is rare in 4K, and runs at 144 Hz. Other notable specs include DisplayHDR 400 certification, 90% coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut, variable refresh, and HDMI 2.1 connectivity, which is essential for gaming consoles This product belonging to the TUF series is the most wallet-friendly of the new lineup of high-spec Asus It will be one of the most wallet-friendly products in Asus' new lineup of high-spec Asus products.

Moving up in size is the 32" Asus ROG Swift PG32UQ. This is a premium IPS 4K panel with 144Hz refresh and HDMI 2.1 support. The latter makes the PG32UQ suitable for both PC and console gaming; it also supports DisplayPort 1.4 connectivity.

HDR capabilities are rated at a relatively modest DisplayHDR 600, not the new generation of mini LED backlighting with over 1,000 local dimming zones. On the one hand, this means it cannot provide a true HDR experience, but on the other, it should help keep costs down; the PG32UQ also features G-Sync compatibility with Reflex Latency Analyzer support, making it ideal for the latest Nvidia GPUs.

The final 4K model is the 43-inch Asus ROG Strix XG43UQ. Again, 144Hz, HDMI 2.1, but this time with DisplayHDR 1000 support. Unlike other 4K 144Hz products, the XG43UQ uses VA panel technology; given the 43-inch panel size, what we're looking at here is probably a repurposed 4K TV panel.

In any case, variable refresh and low latency modes are part of the XG43UQ's attractive proposition.

For esports freaks and those who value refresh rate above all else, Asus has another trick up its sleeve, the Asus ROG Swift PG279QM, a 27-inch QHD panel with 2,560 x 1,440 pixels and a 240 Hz refresh rate It is.

Incidentally, all of these new Asus gaming panels are rated at 1 ms response time. Four new monitors of a wide range of sizes and specs, one of a completely different type, all with the same response time down to the last millisecond. Really?

In any case, none of these panels will be cheap, but hopefully the fact that they will be going up against a wide range of similarly spec'd competitors from other brands like Acer and Viewsonic will make their pricing competitive.

Aside from the 28-inch Asus TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A, all of these will be available in Q1 2021.
