New shots and details of the "Mortal Kombat" movie reboot.

Update: As many have pointed out, the old "Mortal Kombat" film had a deadly technique. Perhaps the promotional interview for the film was a good idea, as that deadly move was ...... Perhaps they went too far in trying to emphasize that it was a more deadly technique?

The original: Mortal Kombat reboot film is scheduled for release this April 16, and Entertainment Weekly has posted the first shots of the film along with plot details. If you are surprised that this particular franchise has led its directors to speak so solemnly about lore and gore, you are not alone. 'Blood represents connection,' says director Simon McQuoid. 'Blood represents who we are. Without getting too complicated, what we did was to use blood in a performative way."

Copy that. The film begins with a battle between Hasashi Hanzo (played by Hiroyuki Sanada of LOGAN) and Bi Han (Joe Taslim of WARRIOR), who become Scorpion and Sub-Zero, respectively. Hanzo] is the leader of a ninja clan, strong, but at the same time ...... At first he is a peaceful family man," says actor Sanada. 'It's like a family drama with exciting, brutal battles. That's the image of the film for me."

Those interested in learning more about the motivations of Jax, the man with two giant metal arms, can find a fairly detailed plot summary in the Entertainment article, but it goes without saying that the roster also includes: Kano, Kang Lao, Ryu Kang, Milina, Raiden, Shan Tsung, and Sonya Blade. And best of all, there is a new character, Cole Young. Cole Young knows nothing about his heritage except for a birthmark on his chest, the symbol of Mortal Kombat.

All kidding aside, I will eventually see this movie and will probably enjoy it immensely. One interesting thing to note here is that the film has a death scene. This apparently has never been done in a Mortal Kombat movie before.

"There are some crazy fatalities," says actor Louis Tan, who plays Cole Young. 'We picked a couple of iconic ones. There are a lot of really cool signature moves in the film, and there are a lot of Easter eggs snuck in. It's brutal.

The film "definitely won't be PG-13 rated," McQuoid admits, and the mystery of the MK logo's birthmark will be solved when the film hits theaters and airs on HBO Max on April 16.
