Glowing Squid in New Minecraft Cave and Cliff Snapshots

The "Minecraft Caves & Cliffs" update is still some time away, but eager players are already experiencing it in the form of content snapshots. 21W03A, the latest of its kind, adds glowing squid and glowing lichen to the Java version.

The sea has been updated in the form of content snapshots.

This is pretty cool, especially since the ocean is a dark place. The glowing squid can be found "from a distance" and will drop glowing ink when you defeat helpless beasts. This ink can be used for signs, for colors, or to frame glowing items. Oh, and if you're hunting glowing squid, expect to find Axolotls in the vicinity: apparently Axolotls love to attack the former.

As for glowing lichens, they can also be used for practical purposes. Once harvested with shears, they can be sown on the surface of the block using bonemeal, effectively making the block glow. It is like a rave.

Another small addition is an adjustment to the dripstone block, which can now be crafted from four pointed dripstones. Other than that, it's a big list of bug fixes, which can be found on the official Minecraft website. As always, snapshots must be enabled from the "Install" menu of the Java version of the launcher.

The Caves & Cliffs update will be available in the summer and winter in Australia. For more on this year's preparations for the block building phenomenon, see Minecraft Status in 2021.
