I thought Agent 47's ability to turn anything into a weapon would cease to amaze me by "Hitman 3," but last night my jaw hit the floor as he knocked out a security guard with just a banana. Bananas! Bananas are a notoriously soft fruit, and occasionally a phone call. You can knock someone out with a banana, but thanks to an underused hitman's mechanic, you can harness the full power of its smooth skin.

Have you ever placed an object in "Hitman" without dropping it? Although rarely mentioned in the game, these two actions are actually different. Holding down Caps Lock (or both bumpers in the case of controllers) while holding an object in your hand allows you to place the object in its intended location. This accuracy is usually only useful when planting remote mines, but if you place a banana this way, it will be crushed into a slippery banana peel. Slap a banana in the path of someone you don't want waking up, and congratulations, you have the perfect trap. No one will ever notice.

Banana peels are not only very amusing to feed to the unsuspecting fool, but they are also a uniquely useful pacifier tool. I can't think of any other non-lethal melee weapon in this game that can also be a mine. Also, holding or placing a peel trap is not suspicious. Who would suspect a man simply enjoying a tasty fruit snack? Slipping on a peel is considered an accident, and guards are not alarmed if there are witnesses to the fall.

The only thing bananas are a little bad at' being thrown. This is where the squishy feel of the banana comes into play. The impact will knock the target down, but he will quickly get up and get angry at the man who threw the fruit at him. If you are desperate, you can throw the banana wherever it falls to distract him with sound, but it too will explode on impact.

I've only seen two Hitman 3 levels so far, but hopefully there is at least one banana on every map. A versatile knockout tool is invaluable in Hitman's difficult silent assassin-suit-only challenge. I've already found two of them on the opening Dubai level, so I'm off to a good start. Bananas seem to have been added for the first time in the Haven Island DLC map in Hitman 2, so I have some work to do there as well.
