Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077 before he became Keanu Reeves.

Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077 before he became Keanu Reeves.

Lea Leonowicz, senior concept artist for Cyberpunk 2077, has posted a piece depicting Johnny Silverhand, one of the central characters in the game. This piece is particularly interesting because it is clearly from before the character was redesigned to look like Keanu Reeves, as Keanu Reeves would be playing the role.

The image was posted on Leonowicz's artstation page (first spotted by altchar) and shows that the concept originally chosen was a more wiggly version of the rocker, who likes leather trousers.

Another image shows the detail of this tattoo of Johnny and his torso, which is covered with scars from combat and surgery.

Leoniwicz also posted images showing various other face and clothing concepts for this character (see below, or click here for a full-size version). I quite like the third guy from the left. He looks a little tired of this cyber crap, but perhaps too fresh faced as well.

Sharp-eyed viewers will notice that Johnny's prosthetic hand has been swapped left and right in various paintings. Finally, there is some rather nice artwork of an action scene featuring this version of Johnny. Pay close attention to the scene where the bullets graze the cyber arms.

If you enjoyed this glimpse of some of the behind-the-scenes cyberpunk art and want to see more, Leonowicz's Art Station page is chock full of great work from this game.
