System Shock" remake is now available for pre-order, with a "final demo" coming next month.

Four years after a $1.3 million crowdfunding campaign (and subsequent full reboot), Nightdive Studio's ambitious System Shock remake is one step closer to release. In a Kickstarter update this week, the developer announced that System Shock will be available for pre-order on Steam, GOG, and the Epic Games Store by the end of February.

The final pre-release demo will accompany the start of pre-orders. This build will feature a fresh pass at complete dismemberment, new voice acting, and smaller features and bug fixes than previous demos, ranging from medical procedures to EDM cyberspace nightmares. The update post also includes sneak peeks of other parts of the game, showing spurts of blood from appropriately menacing robots and computer terminals. All the usual space stuff.

Nightdive also announced that System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition will feature significant changes: while not a complete remake like the first game, the scope of SS2:EE has "evolved" into a more substantial remaster than originally intended, the The studio wrote.

The Enhanced Edition, which ported the source code from System Shock 2 to its own engine, will feature completely remade character and weapon models. However, Nightdive has incorporated at least 10 fan-favorite community mods (including new models, textures, and quest notifications), aiming for an impressive stand-alone VR version of the 90s-era ImSim.

SS2: Enhanced Edition will be included free with pre-orders of the System Shock remake or for backers of $30 or more.
