General
HyperX's Cloud Alpha headset costs just $80.

It's been two and a half years since we reviewed Kingston's HyperX Cloud Alpha, and while it no longer ranks among the best gaming headsets, it remains an excellent choice. Especially now that the regular price of $99.99 has been reduced to $79.99 at Best Buy.

This discounted price is the same price the headset was on sale for last year's Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. It was a very good deal back then, so if you missed out, now is your chance to take a mulligan and see what all the fuss is about.

Where the Cloud Alpha excels is in its balance of sound quality, comfort, and price. When it comes to audio, the Cloud Alpha is a punchy headset, bringing the boom to the lower frequencies without compromising the mids and highs. So whether a grenade explodes up close during a game or you're launching a playlist, it's up to the task.

We also found that there was very little distortion even when the volume was turned up uncomfortably loud (we do not recommend this in any case). As for physical comfort, the memory foam padding and relatively lightweight design (0.74 pounds) make them easy to wear even during long gaming sessions.
