Prequel series "The Witcher": Blood Origin

Jodi Turner-Smith has been cast as the titular character Eil in Netflix's Witcher prequel, The Witcher: Blood Origins.

As reported by Deadline, Blood Origin is a six-part live-action series set 1200 years before Henry Cavill's series. Set before the Joining of the Spheres, the event in Witcher lore that brought all monsters and magic to the human world, the series is a completely original story not mentioned in the books or games, and follows the events leading up to the Joining and the birth of the first Witcher.

Turner-Smith ("Queen and Slim," "Nightflyers") plays Eil, "an elite warrior blessed with the voice of a goddess who renounces his position as guardian of his family and queen to follow his heart as a nomadic musician. The show will see Eir return to the blade after a "grand reckoning" on the continent to seek revenge.

"Blood Origin" was announced last summer, but so far no other cast members have been announced. A casting call last month cast the unnamed roles G and Z, the "brilliant assassin" and "mystical, earthly conduit," respectively.

Netflix will be going all in on the Witcher show for the next few years. In addition to a second season of the full-length film starring Cavill, the platform has also commissioned a Witcher animated feature, Nightmare Of The Wolf.
