It was already fairly certain that Dragon Age 4 would be set in the uncharted territory of Tevinter. For one thing, the Inquisitor stuck his knife directly into the map of the Tevinter Imperium at the end of Dragon Age: Inquisition's "Trespasser" DLC, and BioWare released a collection of short stories called "Tevinter Nights" in 2020 with the same finger pointing in the same direction.

The writing has always been on the wall. But now it is written in an actual licensed book. The recently released "BioWare: Stories and Secrets from 25 Years of Game Development" celebrates the studio's 25th anniversary with art, photos, commentary, and stories; Eurogamer's Tom Phillips obtained the book and inside found the official confirmation letter.

"As BioWare celebrated its 25th year, the Dragon Age team was hard at work on the long-awaited sequel to Dragon Age: Inquisition, codenamed Morrison: a sneak peak of the Inquisition sequel," a 324 page The entry states.

"Directed by executive producer Mark Darrah, the game takes players to Tevinter as the events of Inquisition and Trespasser threaten to change Thedas forever.

That's not accurate: Darrah abruptly left BioWare in early December 2020, along with Mass Effect director and BioWare general manager Casey Hudson. Such is the nature of lead times in book publishing. However, it is reasonable to assume that the narrative direction of Dragon Age 4 will remain on track under new leadership.

"Dragon Age 4" may take players further afield than just Tevinter; BioWare's book includes what appears to be Antiva City, the capital of a region on Tevinter's eastern border, and a city on Tevinter's southern border Another image, believed to be of Nevarra, one of the Lords of Fortune, a guild of treasure hunters based in Rivain to the northeast, and one of the dwarven tunnels known as the Deep Roads are also included.

No release date seems to be hidden anywhere, but it is still expected to be far away: in its October 2019 earnings call, Electronic Arts stated that the next game in the series "will probably be after the fiscal year (2022)," which means after April 2022.
