A man who built a mining rig in the back of his BMW "to annoy gamers".

Building mining rigs in odd places to frustrate gamers. Now, there's a guy mining to frustrate people even more: Simon Byrne has a BMW i8 with six Nvidia RTX 3080s, and he can run this rig in a hybrid car.

The mining rig (discovered by HardwareTimes) is mounted in the trunk of the car and can be powered by the car's internal battery. However, it is not particularly practical because the trunk (or trunk for Americans) must be left open or the whole thing will overheat.

But being practical is not the point, Byrne says, it is more important to piss off gamers, and when Tom's Hardware contacted Byrne to see if the system was real and workable, Byrne replied, "Sure, it's to annoy the gamers!" .

He also claims to have a vision of a utopian world run by cryptocurrencies, but we do not know what kind of utopia would involve building mining rigs in the trunks of cars.

This mining rig is nowhere near the 78 RTX 3080 mining farm that Byrne also operates.

The new pressure from bots on the supply of graphics cards is no doubt intended to build cryptocurrency mining rigs, not just to resell them for profit. Similarly, there are reports of large quantities being sold further down the supply chain for use in mining farms, with fewer cards ultimately reaching retailers. The exact impact of these practices is not known, and ongoing component shortages are also a significant factor in the shortages, so it is difficult to see the forest for the trees when it comes to the root causes.

Purchasing a graphics card is no easy task, and once again we are seeing the blow of the recent Bitcoin price increase. However, this cryptocoin is very volatile and can crash overnight, dropping thousands of dollars in value. It has also again drawn the ire of regulators who want to keep cryptocurrencies under control.
