IO Studio Director Says Bond Game Could Be Trilogy

Little is known about IO Interactive's recently announced James Bond game (other than that the studio is a perfect fit and that it is years away), but in a new interview with Danish website DR, studio director Hakan Abrak revealed a few hints. First of all, he suggests that the game "could" be a trilogy, which is no big surprise.

"We've been given permission to create our own digital Bond that doesn't rely on Bond actors," Abrak said.

"We also have a completely original story in mind, and it's easy to imagine a trilogy coming out of it."

Ablak talks about the complex process of acquiring the rights to such a mega-franchise. In this case, he had to convince Barbara Broccoli and EON Productions that the studio was the right fit for the job. Apparently, Broccoli believed that the previous games were not "good enough" and had too much "violence for violence's sake."

"Our background in the world of 'Hitman' and our vision of what Bond was in the game format resonated straight with Barbara Broccoli," says Abrak. This is kind of interesting in that it successfully applies this 007 game to the "Hitman" archetype. It's definitely a violent game, like the Bond films, but it's not an ongoing one.

The project will be the largest in IO's history, and the studio will double in size during its development. Says Ablak, "We have 200 employees now, but in the next few years we'll probably exceed 400."

"So there is no doubt that the deal with Bond means an insane amount to us.

"It's a very, very special, boy's dream," says Ablak.

"Sometimes it's still a little difficult for people to understand that we are the ones making James Bond."
