General
Crucial's MX500 1TB remains an excellent SSD, now down to just $85.

At the risk of jinxing it, SSDs are still readily available, unlike the latest CPUs and GPUs. Storage products have not experienced the shortages and price spikes that other parts have; there are even deals like the 1TB of Crucial's MX500.

The MX500 still occupies a position in our roundup of the best SSDs for gaming (we recommend it primarily as a secondary storage drive these days if the M.2 slot is filled) and is available at Newegg for $84.99. This price is after applying coupon code 63WTNTY277 at checkout.

The MX500 is a 2.5-inch form factor SSD with a SATA 6Gbps interface; faster M.2 form factor models with NVMe interfaces are better choices for primary storage, but this discount makes the MX 500 remains a notable option worth considering.

Currently, gaming on SATA SSDs is nearly identical to gaming on NVMe SSDs in terms of load times and overall performance. Hopefully this will change as developers begin to take advantage of Microsoft's DirectStorage API for Windows 10, but at this point there is little difference between the two.

That said, even as a primary storage option, the MX500 can still hold its own for now if you want it to. However, the MX500 is best used as a secondary drive, where it can be backed up faster than a mechanical HDD without burdening your bank account. Either way, this is a good price for a 1TB SSD.
