New Director for "Tomb Raider" Sequel

A new director has been confirmed for the sequel to the "Tomb Raider" film starring Alicia Vikander. Misha Green, creator of "Lovecraft Country," will make his feature film debut as director and screenwriter.

Green will replace Ben Wheatley, who was named director when the film was announced in 2019. The film was originally scheduled for release in March 2021, but was postponed indefinitely at the end of last year.

Green confirmed on Twitter that she will be taking over as director, and also threw in her two cents on what her favorite Tomb Raider games are. Green's favorite Tomb Raider game is Legend (honestly, they are the same), while her favorite reboot games are closely followed by Rise and Shadow.

Most interesting is the bunch of pictograms in the center, which seem to be cheeky hints of what to expect to see in the sequel. In addition to the obvious gun, flashlight, and "running woman" images, there are also images of Mt. Fuji, moai statues, zombies, and a T-REX.

Vikander's first Tomb Raider movie was released in 2018 and drew heavily on inspiration from the 2013 reboot game. It wasn't terrible, but it didn't do the original justice and felt a bit like a generic action movie.
