Kevin Hart Joins the Cast of "Borderlands" Film

Kevin Hart of "Jumanji" has signed on to play Roland, a highly trained former Atlas soldier, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Hart is known primarily for his comedic work in films such as "Ride Along," "Central Intelligence," and "Night School" as well as various comedy specials, but according to the report, the role of Roland will be "a more serious performance for the star."

Given that "Borderlands" is not the most dramatic or heavy-handed video game ever made, this is a bit unexpected, but it is possible that the film will have a darker tone than its source material suggests: the presence of Blanchett, who has won multiple Academy Awards, would otherwise Blanchett's presence gives the film an instant credibility (or at least name recognition) that it might otherwise lack, and it is directed by Eli Roth, the gore-meister best known for "Hostel," "Grindhouse," and "Cabin Fever." Above all, it looks like an interesting blend of talent.

"I'm excited to be working with Kevin. Borderlands is a different type of role for him, and I'm excited to excite audiences with a side of Kevin they haven't seen before. He will be a great Roland."

Roland is a soldier class character in "Borderlands," "Borderlands 2," and "Borderlands Pre-Sequel: Borderlands," "Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel," "Tiny Tina's Assault on Soldier class character from the Dragon Keep DLC. He is skilled with all weapons, but prefers rifles and shotguns, and can deploy the powerful Scorpio Turret.

Details about the "Borderlands" movie are still unknown, including when it will actually appear on the screen, but filming is expected to begin soon in Hungary.
