Cyberpunk 2077 adds official modding support

Cyberpunk 2077 mods have been popping up since its launch on December 10. The first official mod support tool for Cyberpunk 2077 is now available.

This is promising news: it has been questionable for some time whether mods would be officially supported after launch by CD Prokekt. Recall that in 2019, Marcin Momot, global community leader at CD Projekt, said, "Of course, we want to support the mod community in the future, but for now we want to focus on releasing the game first."

Now that the game has been released, and due to its buggy nature, it will definitely benefit from more mods. The current offerings on the official mod support page don't seem to be much (at least compared to The Witcher 3's official mod kit), but they are a start:

"Tools will be continuously updated alongside game patches to ensure compatibility and the site states that "the tools will be continuously updated with game patches to ensure compatibility. Anyone who wants to make a mod should read the license agreement first.

It has been a rough few weeks for Cyberpunk 2077. The apology video didn't do much, but it raised more questions, the first major patch intended to fix a bug introduced an entirely new bug, and CDPR is facing multiple lawsuits over the troubled release. There is also no word yet on when Cyberpunk 2077 will return to the PlayStation console, which was discontinued on December 18.
