CDPR shuts down cyberpunk mod that lets you "have sex" with Keanu Reeves

As a sort of inevitable consequence, a new mod for Cyberpunk 2077 that allows players to have sex halfway with Keanu Reeves was quickly shut down by the CDPR.

The mod, created by Catmino and hosted at Nexus Mods, essentially allowed players to manually replace the skin textures of their characters with other models, and Johnny Silverhand is one of the skins that can be replaced in this way

Johnny Silverhand is one of the skins that can be replaced this way.

Johnny Silverhand has a few sketchy scenes in the game, but they are from the player's point of view. The mod creates a pretty terrible approximation to sex with Keanu, to be honest, because the character remains clothed and does not have Keanu's voice (the dialogue in Joy Toy's voice remains the same). In other words, I don't know, I've never had sex with Mr. Reeves, but at some point he will probably take his pants off.

The mod was discovered by Eurogamer earlier today and was removed from the nexus mod shortly after that article was published with the following description: "Clear things up with CDPR."

PCG contacted the CDPR to ask what was going on and received the following statement: "Our most important rule regarding user-generated content, especially game mods, is that it must not be harmful to others. In the case of model exchanges, especially those involving explicit situations, this could be perceived as such by those who loaned us their appearance for the purpose of creating characters for Cyberpunk 2077." It's not surprising that CDPR doesn't want to jeopardize its relationship with Reeves, as his character could be resurrected in DLC or other forms.

The following video shows the mod in action.

It is worth noting that Keanu Reeves is the biggest celebrity in the game, but not only that: the reason Catmino's mod was rudimentary is that it was one of the first, if not the first, to focus on this area, allowing players to, for example, make out with Kojima It is a legitimate assumption that things will only get "better" in terms of being able to make out with Hideo.

The CDPR statement continues: "Therefore, when creating fan content, creators must ensure that they have the permission of all parties involved (which could be anyone other than CD PROJEKT RED). As for the characters we have invented for the game, we have broad permission to modify them at will and enjoy them. As for models of real people we have asked to participate in our games, please do not use them in situations that may cause offense, unless you have their explicit permission."

The CDPR ends with a game licensing agreement and fan content guidelines for modders.

There are certainly interesting ethical issues regarding such modifications. I mean, it's one thing to swoon over Keanu Reeves, but plastering his face on a virtual sex robot seems a bit over the top and personally offensive, even if he did care about such things. On the other hand, this is a textured character model, not Keanu Reeves, and these relatively hackneyed scenarios feel more like they came out of an experiment in fun and hell than for the sake of skepticism. This is, after all, what modelers do (and in this case, what some in the audience wanted). It could also easily be placed in the category of "pandemics seem to have made gamers thirsty like never before" (see, for example, the desire for Mrs. Dimitrescu).

There is much to chew on. All that remains would be to say that (a) the Internet is weird, especially now, and (b) whatever you think about this exact mod, be great to each other.
