"Castlevania" has been animated, "Dragon's Dogma" has been animated, and soon "Tomb Raider" will be animated as well. As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix's animated adaptation will be written and executive produced by Tasha Huo, who also wrote the screenplay for The Witcher: Blood Origin.

According to reports, the series will take place after the most recent Tomb Raider reboot trilogy, which began with 2013's Tomb Raider and ended with 2018's Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It's fitting, since that trilogy itself took place before any of the previous Tomb Raider games and was positioned as an origin story for Lara Croft.

The animation has nothing to do with the latest Tomb Raider film, which Wes described as a "thoroughly decent action movie." Whether the live-action "Tomb Raider" sequel, with Misha Greene as the new director, will overturn that lukewarm assessment remains to be seen.

It remains to be seen when an animated Tomb Raider film will be released.
