Corsair's MP600 Pro Hydro X ultra-fast SSD comes with a dedicated water block

Corsair today announced its upcoming MP600 Pro series of high-speed SSDs and opened pre-orders for several SKUs on Newegg. Among them is the MP600 Pro Hydro X, which is intended for users with custom liquid cooling loops.

This Hydro X comes with a water block that can be easily integrated into a liquid cooling loop. In theory, liquid cooling the SSD (especially the controller chip) should allow it to maintain peak speeds for an extended period of time before throttling (incidentally, Corsair will also make the Hydro X water block available as a stand-alone purchase, and any M.2 form factor SSDs).

To that end, the MP600 Pro and MP600 Pro Hydro X use Phison's latest controller, the PS5018-E18, which, according to Corsair's rated specifications, delivers up to 7,000 Mbps sequential read performance and 6,550 Mbps sequential write performance.

We have not yet tested this new drive, so we will have to see how it performs under real workloads. In any case, to take full advantage of the ultra-fast performance, you will need a motherboard and CPU that support PCI Express 4.0. At this point, at least until Intel's Rocket Lake-S chips come out, that means an X570 or B550 motherboard and a Zen 2 (Ryzen 3000) or Zen 3 (Ryzen 5000) desktop CPU combination.

The MP600 Pro Hydro X 2TB model is available for pre-order on Newegg for $460; the MP600 Pro Hydro X 2TB model is available for pre-order on Newegg for $460.

Obviously not cheap for a 2TB SSD, but about the same price as the current fastest models. For example, WD's new Black SN850 is $450 for 2TB on Amazon, and that's without the heatsink.

For those who can do without the water block (which is most people), the regular MP600 Pro is also available for pre-order, priced at $435 for 2 TB and $225 for 1 TB.
