Sonic seems to be getting a new voice actor after 10 years, but who should play him next?

Oh, Sonic. The world's fastest hedgehog. The speed demon. The blue blur. For decades he has been speeding, and for a decade he was played by voice acting veteran Roger Craig Smith. You may know him as Ezio from Assassin's Creed, Chris Redfield from Resident Evil, or Oliver from Hannah Montana: Spotlight World Tour. Well, maybe not.

But it looks like Craig Smith's long relationship with Sonic the Hedgehog is over based on this tweet the actor posted today While he doesn't actually say he's dropping the role or give any details as to why, it's clear he's talking about Sonic here, right?

Craig Smith has played Sonic in numerous games and media over the years, including the Disney film "Wreck-It Ralph," "Team Sonic Racing," "Sonic Boom," "Sonic Force" and "Sonic Generations." If the title has "Sonic" in it, Craig Smith may be in the film.

However, now that Sonic's role is set, Sega has some suggestions as to who should play Sonic.

Werner Herzog. Imagine Werner Herzog saying "Gotta go fast."

Roger Clarksonick remained a cocky and enthusiastic teenager. Not in the edgy, "Shadow the Hedgehog" kind of way, but in the edgy, "True Detective" kind of way, like the characters in True Detective. And who better to play this newly gray-haired Sonic (a private investigator perhaps down on his luck) than the voice of Arthur Morgan in "Red Dead Redemption 2"?

Matt Berry specifically, Matt Berry as Dr. Sanchez in Garth Marenghi's "The Dark Place". If you don't know who I'm talking about, watch this video.

David BatesonDavid Bateson voices Agent 47 in "Hitman," and I'd like to see him play Sonic in the exact same voice delivery.

Now, these are all terrible suggestions. But it will be interesting to see who voices Sonic. At least not as much as in the 1990s. But with Sonic games coming out one after another, whoever gets the job will at least be guaranteed a steady job.
