Rocket League Adds NFL Modes for Ball-Carrying and Out-of-Bounds Rules

As part of its partnership with the NFL in Super Bowl LV, Rocket League is finally getting another kind of football. (The mode is called "The Gridiron" and will appear from February 2 through February 8; it's not your average car soccer with American footballs, as Snow Day replaced the soccer ball with a puck. It's far from a one-on-one translation, but it should be interesting; here's how it works, in Psyonix's words:

I like that it all seems unnecessary. Maybe I just have terrible standards for sponsored special events, but Psyonix could have added American football to the game without changing anything else. Instead, they made up rules for ball carrying and out of bounds. I don't really care if it's funny or not, I just want to see if it's a mess or if it actually works in some way.

I think about the possibility of strange transformations of Rocket League from time to time, and I'm sure other players do as well. I primarily play Snow Day, the field hockey mode of Rocket League, and my teammates and I have frequently discussed that it would be fun to overcomplicate things, at least temporarily. Let's say, for example, that Snow Day had an offside rule. Would that make the game better? Almost certainly not, but it would be fun.

Again, "Gridiron" will appear on February 2. There will also be a new challenge that unlocks the "Gridiron Guru" player title, the NFL Wheel, and 20,000 XP, and the NFL Fan Pack will return to the item store.
