Left 4 Dead 2 Finally Gets "Uncut" Update in Germany

German Left 4 Dead 2 users can now download free DLC to upgrade to the bloody "uncut" international release, following a re-evaluation by national authorities.

Like the infamous Australian version of Left 4 Dead 2, the German version was heavily modified to remove blood, gore, and objectionable content; in 2014, Valve successfully resubmitted the unmodified game in Australia and applied free patches to the Aussie copy The company also applied a free patch to the Aussie copy of the game.

"Valve recently asked German authorities to re-evaluate a game called 'Left 4 Dead 2,'" the developer wrote in a Steam update. As a result, an uncensored international version of Left 4 Dead 2 is now available to German customers."

Besides Left 4 Dead 2, Germany also suffered from a comically modified version of Team Fortress 2. Other Valve games were also cut to meet regional standards, but a major update in 2017 removed most restrictions. Germans who want to update their games to the international version can do so by downloading a free DLC patch on Steam.
