Sandbox, successor to Garry's Mod, shows bright signs with new development updates.

Sandbox, aka s&box, is the successor to Garry's Mod from Facepunch Studios. We first heard about it last year thanks to a meme-like tweet from Garry Newman. The latest development update is fairly detailed, describing progress on ragdolls, various sandbox tools like wheels and thrusters, chat boxes, clean water, broken things, and perhaps the most impressive: the sun.

"This month, we started working on an expansive time system," Newman said in his update. He goes on to elaborate on the graphic changes that the light system allows, such as matching shadows to both the player model and the object in the player's hand. There are lots of great little videos, from how ragdolls work to how objects break under the influence of physics. There's even a chat emoji. I like this one too. [Newman still wasn't sure if this code would make it into Garry's Mod 2. Since then, the game has switched engines, and development has started and stopped several times, so it's possible it never did; Garry's Mod is the most popular physics and nonsense sandbox on the original Source engine, and the complete The tale of coincidence is a fascinating read.
