Jack Black to Play Claptrap in "Borderlands" Film

Casting for the film "Borderlands" is accelerating. The Hollywood Reporter revealed today that Jack Black has joined the project and will voice Claptrap, a robot with a mixed love-hate relationship. [Eli Roth, director of "Borderlands," who directed Black and Cate Blanchett in the 2018 comedy fantasy "The House With a Clock in its Walls," said in a statement, "We are very excited to be reunited with Jack, this time in the recording booth." Claptrap is the most interesting character in the game and Jack is perfect to bring him to the big screen." [Ross is not the only one excited about this casting news.

David Eddings, who voiced Claptrap in the first two "Borderlands" films and "Pre-Sequel," was replaced by Jim Foronda for "Borderlands 3" after a dispute over pay and a falling out with Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford. Bringing either of these two back to star in a film would be credible to "Borderlands" fans, but with all due respect, neither name is likely to resonate with a wide audience like Black's.

Black joins mid-level Hollywood actresses Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, and Jamie Lee Curtis in the "Borderlands" production: Blanchett plays the legendary thief Lilith, Hart the skilled soldier Roland, and Curtis the unstable archaeologist Tanis. Blanchett plays the legendary thief Lilith, Hart the skilled soldier Roland, and Curtis the unstable archaeologist Tanis. Plot details have yet to be revealed, but my guess is that these four (maybe more) will form a strange team to search for a mythical relic hidden in Pandora's vaults. Filming is scheduled to begin soon in Hungary.
