Leaked Core i7 11700K results show AMD Ryzen is still the CPU to beat in 2021

A possible Rocket Lake leak surfaced in benchmarks comparing the Core i7 11700K against current top CPUs in various games and tests.

The original source, Lab501 (via Videocardz), posted benchmarks of an 8-core, 16-thread CPU this morning as a "preview" of the upcoming chip.

In PCMark 10, the Core i7 11700K scored 7927, sandwiched between the company's Core i9 10900K (7904) and AMD's Ryzen 5600X (8018). In the Fire Strike Extreme test, the 11th generation chip also scored 16,572 in the graphics test and 15844 in the general test. Both were narrowly ahead of the Ryzen 7 5800X and just behind the Ryzen 5 5600X, but doing well.

When it comes to physical processing power, chips like the Ryzen 9 5950X and Ryzen 7 5800X score over 30,000 points, while the Core i7 lags behind the Ryzen 5 5600X by a considerable margin, scoring 25,984 points, barely better than the 25,853 of the It seems to be lagging behind by a considerable margin.

Furthermore, considering the somewhat mediocre scores above, CPU power consumption is striking: the Core i7 11700K consumes 286W, which is more than the 10980XE and second only to the monster CPU, the Core i9 10900K at 354W.

These power consumptions indicate that the 11th generation chips are running quite hot, but the Noctua NH-D15 cooling of the test bed seems to have done its job well, as the highest temperature reading for the CPU was only 71°C.

The chip was also tested for relative gaming performance at 4K, 1440p, and 1080p. The overall results were summarized as follows:

"The Intel Core i7 11700K is clearly the most powerful Intel processor in gaming, but it lags slightly behind the new AMD monster in the Ryzen 5000 series. [In "GTA V," "Shadow of War," "Batman AK," and "Ashes of Singularity," the Intel Core i7 11700K achieves similar or better results than the 10900K, but is overtaken by the Ryzen 5000 series AMD processors. In Metro Exodus, the processors achieve similar results, with the Intel Core i7 11700K rivaling the AMD processor.

Indeed, in several other games listed, the Intel Core i7 11700K "outperforms all processors" and completely outperforms the benchmark in half of the listed game tests.

In other words, the Core i7 11700K, or at least this engineering sample, seems to be quite the beast, although AMD still holds the crown. And while the source article may be very detailed, we always warn that even if it is accurate now (which it may not be), things could change before it hits the market around late March.
