It's too bad the Cosmodrome in Destiny 2 won't be bigger.

Last year, Destiny 2's Beyond Light expansion took the controversial step of "vaulting" half of the game's world. But while Destiny 1's Cosmodrome was also "vaulted" as a kind of consolation, and more specifically as the setting for a new player experience, Bungie explained this week that it will not be going any further in detailing the area.

Introduced as a new tutorial space and a chunk of nostalgia for Destiny 1, about half of the Cosmodrome came with the release of Beyond Light; Bungie has said that Destiny 2's version of the Cosmodrome is "roughly on par with Destiny 1's Year 1. equivalent," but did not fully disclose how much content it would contain.

Currently, Bungie considers the Cosmodrome rebuild complete. The company believes that the pause in the Cosmodrome rebuild is a fair trade-off for the creation of a new world.

"As the launch of Beyond Light approaches, it is clear that we have a choice: After returning all three original strikes, do we invest additional time and resources to make the Cosmodrome as good as D1, or do we switch focus to building a new experience for Year 4 and beyond? or switch focus to building a new experience for Year 4 and beyond? We chose the latter option because we believed we had achieved our original goals and knew the community and team wanted new content."

Bungie never explicitly suggested that areas like The Plaguelands, which appeared in Destiny 1's Rise Of Iron, would not jump. However, the developer did apologize for showing the final shape of the region without making an accurate prediction as to "how far the experience in the Cosmodrome will extend."

"So, to clear up a misunderstanding: with the return of the Devil's Lair and Fallen S.A.B.E.R. strikes, there are no active plans to add anything beyond what is in the Cosmodrome, and the overall focus will be on new updates."

Destiny's Vault is intended as a space where Bungie can cycle through the game's past content. Nevertheless, in an interview with game director Luke Smith last year, he made it clear that Destination will not be Vaulted anytime soon. However, for those who want another taste of nostalgia, we do know that the Vault of Glass raid will return later this year.

Overall, despite the confusion, the choice not to continue building more Cosmodromes seems like the right one. As it stands, there is little reason to visit the destination after the New Right Onboarding process, so it feels right to focus on the actual new one. It is also telling (and a refreshing change) that there has been no significant backlash from the community against it.
