Left 4 Dead wiki vandalized with reference to lost fifth survivor

The ragtag survivors of the original Left 4 Dead are instantly recognizable, but who's your favorite of them all? Zoe, Bill, Louis, Francis, or the purplish doppelganger of Francis who was temporarily canonized in a massive takeover of the L4D wiki this weekend?

On Friday, Left 4 Dead's Fandom wiki was greeted by the arrival of a fifth playable character. Francis' forgotten twin looks identical to his uncolored brother, save for a strong purple hue and a background as a root beer entrepreneur.

The addition was quickly discovered on Twitter, where purple Francis gradually amassed a small cult following.

Twitter users "Lucy" and "Unknowntrope" have since taken credit as co-creators of Purple Francis, fair play to them, and integrated him into the site. References to the saturated biker are scattered throughout the survivor pages, complementing his relationships and interactions with other characters in the game and giving life to three children of Purple Francis: Cungulus, Skribbity, and Johnson.

Sadly, the wiki moderators were busy reverting changes and seem to have removed all references to Purple Phrancis from the wider site. As of this writing, his own page has been flagged as "fanon" and overwritten by dozens of crude edits. At least fans may be relieved to hear that Purple Francis' canonical death in the official Left 4 Dead comic has been rewritten:

"Whether Purple Francis was going to survive the horde at the military base during the 'Sacrifice' comic is a matter of fan left to speculation. When this question was posed to Gabe Newell, he became terribly angry and ordered the person who posed the question to leave immediately.

Purple Francis may have been erased from canonical history, but at least he will live on through fan art and Left 4 Dead 2 mods.
