NZXT Recalls 32,000 H1 PC Cases in the U.S.

The recall of NZXT H1 PC cases has been formalized by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Canadian government. Approximately 32,000 PC cases are being recalled in the U.S. alone, with another 1,000 or so being recalled in Canada. Therefore, if you own a case, you must obtain a repair kit from the H1 Safety Notification website or request a refund from your place of purchase.

NZXT said the recall is ongoing during a recent blog post update addressing unresolved concerns over a makeshift nylon screw fix that NZXT was rolling out at the time, though NZXT says it is working on a more permanent fix, which remains the solution, appropriate product recalls are in place to at least prevent further hazards.

Ultimately, the issue boils down to two screws on the PCIe riser assembly being too close to the 12V power supply on the connecting PCB. This seemingly minor mistake exposes the Mini-ITX NZXT H1 case to a potential fire hazard, in accordance with NZXT's safety notice:

"The two screws attaching the PCIe Riser assembly to the chassis cause an electrical short to the PCB This can cause overheating and pose a fire hazard."

While the nylon screws prevent the immediate fire hazard of the affected case, NZXT acknowledges that further solutions are needed to completely prevent the case from becoming a hazard to anyone in the future.
