Peter Molyneux's 22cans hit by layoffs

22cans, the studio founded by Peter Molyneux, the creator of Godus and Curiosity: What's Inside The Cube, has suffered layoffs, according to a report from GamesIndustry.biz.

The developer has not disclosed how many employees have been made redundant, but a company spokesperson confirmed that several people have lost their jobs and that the studio will offer "some assistance" in finding new employment for affected staff.

"Unfortunately, we can confirm that a number of positions at 22cans have been made redundant due to a number of factors, including that the project has reached a certain stage in its development."

22cans told the outlet that these job cuts will not affect the development of the studio's current project, Legacy, which was announced in 2019, and little has been heard about this businessman-run sim since.

Founded by Molyneux in 2012, the notorious British designer stepped down as CEO in 2015, leaving new boss Simon Phillips to clean up the mess. Phillips himself appears to have left the company in 2019, and there is no clear word on his successor.

22cans is, of course, notorious for its poor hand at "Godus" and for failing to deliver some of the Godus game profits that "Curiosity" winner Brian Henderson had intended. The studio also released a small mobile hiking game, The Trail, but has been largely absent from the public eye since Molyneux vowed to speak to the press.
